FAQs

How many applications can I submit?
You can submit as many applications as you like, for as many of the briefs as you wish.

If I was unable to attend the introductory event, can I still apply for the Lab?
Yes. But you may wish to watch the presentations from the Launch Days.

How focused and resolved should the proposal concepts be?
We expect a range of project proposals at different stages of development. Some of the accepted ideas may be reasonably mature, with preliminary designs or rough prototypes already built while others may be at a more embryonic stage.

Will applicants be tied to their original proposals?
Teams will have the scope to make significant changes to their projects during the Lab; the purpose of the process is that teams should test and challenge their ideas, working with peers and mentors to revise and refine them.

What are the selection criteria?
Is the project innovative?
Is it aligned with a clear user need?
Is the project appropriate to the BBC?
Is there another development route if the BBC does not commission the project?
Does the team have a credible track record of creativity, innovation and professional production in relevant media?

Who is on the selection panel?
The selection panel will include representatives from the BBC, funding agencies and regional delivery bodies.
