North West Innovation Lab Open Day: 28th November 2005: Speakers Announced

Matt Jones and Dale Herigstad are both confirmed to speak at the North West Open Day. They will present their ideas and visions for the future alongside a range of senior BBC representatives.

Matt Jones is a creative director and user-experience designer, with over 10 years experience at some of the biggest news and information sites in the UK and the world, including BBC News Online. He is currently working in concept development and researching future mobile device user-experiences for Nokia in Helsinki.

Dale Herigstad is Executive Creative Director at Schematic. Schematic designs and develops interface and technology solutions. Their mission is to create simple, powerful answers to their clients' operations and communications challenges. For the past five years, they have been helping leading companies harness new technologies and new ideas. They have grown to be an industry leader in interface design, interactive production processes, and software development. Along the way, they have won countless awards for work on the Web, television, and other interactive platforms.

North West Innovation Lab Open Day - 28th November at the Manchester Art Gallery

The launch of the North West Innovation lab will take place on the 28th November at the Manchester Art Gallery. With a range of BBC speakers and external speakers Matt Jones and Dale Herigstad, the day will be an exciting and interesting introduction to the Innovation Labs project.

The goals of the day are to:
- explain the purpose of the Innovation Labs and the procedure for making a proposal;
- provide information about our internet and innovation strategies;
- provide an opportunity for networking;
- discuss the kind of projects which we might commission
- generate some preliminary ideas.

Second London Launch event this Friday

The second London launch event will be this Friday at ZeroOne-01, Peter St, London. Speakers from the BBC will be the same as the first event (see below) with the addition of Tom Loosemore, talking about the BBC's programme archive project. The external speakers will be Fiona Raby and Dale Herigstad from Schematic.

The event is fully booked, but we'll put the presentations and documentation from the event up asap. If you are based in London, Yorkshire or the NW, then you can still submit proposals for the Labs, regardless of whether you attended a launch event or not. First London launch event

The first London launch event happened last Friday, 18th November at BOX, Clements Inn, London. Around 50 representatives from London indie new media companies attended. Speakers included Jem Stone, Matt Locke and Holly Goodier from the BBC and presentations from Ben Cerveny (ex Flickr and Frog Design) and Angela Shen-Hsei of Visual-IO. Presentations and notes from the brainstorm sessions will be available to download from this site soon.

Yorkshire Launch Event

The Yorkshire Lab launch event happened on Tuesday, November 1st at the National Museum of Photography, Film & TV in Bradford. There were presentations about the Labs process, the BBC's internet strategy, audience research and two guest presentations from Stan Wiechers of semapedia and Fiona Raby from Dunne&Raby. Presentations and transcripts of the days talks will be available soon from our regional partner, Just-B.
