Welcome To RAD

We are a new, small team within BBC Future Media and Technology.

RAD works on near term prototypes, products and services. We're part of a wider group encompassing Mobile, Audio and Music, and are based in London, W1.

RAD completed recruitment and opened its doors in November 2008. We have a remit which stretches across all digital platforms and content areas, trying to help shape the BBC's thinking, encourage liaison with longer term research and release code and output which delivers new ways of tackling problems like distribution for AV content, service discovery, UI and UX for new platforms, and much more.

Latest Releases

  • URIPlay
URIplay is an open media metadata aggregator. It aims to provide a single interface to metadata about audio and video content, making light work of integrating content from a range of sources.
  • RadioDNS
RadioDNS represents a way for broadcasters to provide an enhanced radio listening experience through a new set of internet services.
  • HTML 5
We built a simple JavaScript framework using the HTML 5 video element to enable page element changes to be synchronised with the current position of a video.
