Personalise it and enable people to choose their language if they want (Welsh would be my choice).

It looks very defaultish to me. I would fill up the space at the right, either put the content in the middle of the page or make it a stretched layout.

I think its mad that people still design for 800x600 screens. The minority should put up with sites designed in 1024x768 so they upgrade quicker or adjust their monitors and the majority of people can have a decent web browsing experiance.

Good design, bad implementation.
Follow the w3c guidlines and standards, tweak it to work in IE and make it fill the whole screen.
As an added bonus you could make it possible to customize the layout and content, like google's personalized homepage.

@Vincent putting it in the middle just hides the fact that it's wasting the screen space you paid good money for...

surprisingly, 20% of the population still have 800x600, to ignore them and discriminate them just because their set up isnt as good as yours is very short sighted. As a designer, its up to you to come up with ways of solving this hurdle and making everyone happy

I have to agree. Whilst it is maddening that people still plump for 800x600 display (even though their monitor is capable of more), there are reasons why users might want an 800x600 display (such as poor vision etc) The best approach is a liquid layout that works well on all screen resolutions. That way everyone's happy!
