### IDEA ###
The idea is 1) to present as much news as possible on a page and 2) to make the news quickly and easily accessible by minimizing the need for user interaction.

### USABILITY ###
The news are represented in a virtual stack of file cards. The usability concept is that you just need to hover your mouse over an entry and it zooms up to a readable size. When you've read the news, you click on it once, and it is instantly marked as read. Switching to another category is done by simply moving the mouse to another virtual file card stack. To the right, there is a navigation panel which is representing the current category you're in and which is holding the subcategories of the current category.

### USABILITY IMPROVEMENTS ###
If I had more time, I would like to add some more features:
1) Incremental search bar: Type in any words, and the article/descriptions which fit the words appear more opaque while articles with weaker correlation to the keywords become more transparent
2) At the moment, the news are represented by simple images. I would like to implement a mechanism to make the headlines of the most current/most important news readable as soon as the user accesses the site. This is necessary because some users might just want to have a quick overview of the current events.
3) Personalization features, i.e. regarding the sequence of the categories or user-defined seach keywords (having the same effect as the keywords defined in an incremental search, described in 1))

### TECHNICAL IMPROVEMENTS ###
At the moment, the design needs an accurate browser like IE 6.0 or Firefox 1.5x; of course, it should also run on any other browser/platform. Also, at the moment the design is done with DHTML, but is static. In addition, I would like to exploit the AJAX technology to concurrently update the news content.
