BBC by GHS
Simple and clean design. For the moment is full with a lot of unusual code, but in few days when is ready, the page will works perfectly. I have it tested only on Windows machine on IE, FF and Opera and its working correctly (few differences only in Opera).
I'll be appreciate to heard from you, how's is the page viewed on Mac, cause I haven't and I'm not a Mac user, but I'll be very happy if I win the Mac laptop, so I'll be able to test all new pages I'm going to create. But there is no problem if can't, because just making a simple design for the BBC website is making me happy.
That's for now. I'll wait your comments about the design. How I said, in 2-3 days will be ready the full design ( I think I'll gonna make the UK version too).

You should use the real BBC logo.
You can find it if you google image search.
This doesn't work in firefox
What's the difference between the img and the css style logo?
About firefox: I'm testing on both IE FF and Opera on Windows at the same time and the page is working! Could you tell me what's exactly is not working?!

The CSS logo uses the wrong font. That's why using an image would be better.
You can download .ESP versions of the logo from www.brandsoftheworld.com.
Talk about trying to win over the judges: I'll be very happy if I win the Mac laptop, so I'll be able to test all new pages I'm going to create.
Anyway, the design is quite good, I like the colour scheme, I agree that you should change the logo, but apart from that, a very good design!
I'm looking at this through Firefox and it's a mess.
The problem with first impressions is that you can only make one.
Whatever the html, there are some ideas. The tag-style "what other people are searching for", the tabs at the top (which I think are a good idea - incidently the tabs on this reboot site look pretty cool), the 2 search boxes (not so sure about that).
Also look what's missing - the "share with your friends" (which I think is a poor idea - if I tell my friends, I'll do it over msn or email myself). And there's not really any "customise" option - but then I think that a customise option is only good if it's done right.

I'm trying to win you, the users, cause you are the persons that will visit every week, day, hour, ... the website and the page design depend of you and for that is this contest and from your answers depend the final desing.
How I said, I'm not a Mac user and I've never used one, but how I said, it will b good if I can win one, but I said too that I'm not here for the prizes!
Again about the logo!
The logo used in the Internacional version is that one: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iftoolbar/images/toolbar_logo.gif and http://www.bbc.co.uk/home/i/images/ban_home.gif, and my one is the same, but a lil bit bigger. In the UK version is this one: http://www.bbc.co.uk/images/logo042.gif and http://www.bbc.co.uk/home/images/logo3.gif. How I said, I'm going to make the UK version too and there the logo will be different.
And again the Firefox:
"I'm looking at this through Firefox and it's a mess." - Could you make some screenshot and publish it here or send it to my mail, please!? Because only saying that the page is not working with FF and it's a mess can't help me! I'm testing it with FF and it's works with only one error: the "Expolre" search button is bigger on FF that on IE and Opera.

I really like this design, it's clear and contempory and looks very easy to navigate.
I'm also looking through firefox however the page looks fine for me.
Like mentioned above having the two search bars right next to each other is a bit pointless, but I suppose that can easily be replaced!

I just "finish" the NEWS page too, but I don't like the colors, so let me know what you think!
There are some more features to add, but I'll do it those days. All make the Sports page too, but first I would like to know what you think about this one.

The problem with your logo is the fact that you're using Verdana, whereas the actual logo uses Gill Sans MT.

It should be easy to see the difference.
I'm also using Firefox, but I can't see anything wrong with it. It looks fine, although there seem to be some irregularities in regards to fonts (Times New Roman popping up in odd places, for example).
The general designs (for both the main page and news) are quite nice and I like the very white interface.
So I don't really have many criticisms apart from the logo. Good job!

Well, I just finished completely the home, news and sport pages. I've created a simple design for the audio and video player. Specially, I don't like it, but maybe you will!? To launch it, click on the big button in the top-right corner at the news and sport pages.
All the pages are using the current colors and some of the contents like the actual BBC website. I've changed the position of some of them, depending of the importance of their content.
Before the main content and after the header, I've added the personal panel, which include: add/remove/edit page content and the four small panels for my conversations, bookmarks, resent pages, search history?!? and maybe mail. If the user is not logged on, maybe there will be some kind of login form.
So, that's all. I'll wait all your comments till the end of the contest. Let me know what you think about all.
