bbc fluid
I have called this design 'fluid' becasue this is how I feel content will have to be if its to fit with the needs of the future consumer. This concept embodies this fluid concept as the look of the page and the content can be customised by the consumer.
I have created a design that allows the consumer to control both the content which is presented in modules and the look of the page. Ths user can customise/change the title of the page, the colors and even the header graphics - this can be done through Flikr, user library/uploads and images supplied in a library.
The user can then choose which content they want within the page and where they would like the content to be placed within the 3 column page.
The main BBC branding is at the top - this also acts as a link to the main BBC site. At the top of the page it also informs you how many times you have accessed the page to date.
Below this is the Title bar (currently saying 'my homepage'). This allows the consumer to name and customise their page - and is formated through CSS. A search panel is presented within this top bar - Google is shown, with a drop arrow allowing instant access to many other search engines. The search facility is presented near the top in a prominent position because searching is what we do most.
Below this you can see the default 'fluid' branding image. This image can be changed by the consumer allowing them to fully customise the page and its feel. This can be from Flikr, images we give them, or through them uploading an image. It could also be random.
Below this we have a divider bar which presents all the links for the consumer to admin and edit the look and content for their page.
The main content panel has been divided into three columns - the consumer in the back end can choose what content they would like to have here and where they want it.
We have shown and presented the kind of content we feel the consumer values - these are BBC links, Favorite links, news, a notpad, 5 day forcast, media player/library, and citizen journalism.
We see there being many more modules that the consumer could choose; business, health, ebay, ad components, quote of the day, jokes and much more. We see everything being designed in preset modules/sizes allowing the content to be moved both horizontally and vertically in the page design.
Thw two main content areas we feel will be a focus in the future are Audio/video media & Citizen journalism. The media player we see as being both an audio/video player but also a storage/link area to play the content when desired.
The Citizen Journalism component we see as being a search, collection and presentation tool for world news from many of the journalism sources of the future; blogs, RSS news feeds, podcast & videoblogs. These can be searched for and subscribed to directly from this component.
If time and money were possible I would create a predictive/historical journalism component that fed news into this component based on previous searches and overall searches on the web.
I would also allow modules to be created via an open source kit by all the major leading web tools like; ebay, amazon, wikipedia, blogger, gmail, hotmail - allowing modules to be added to the pages by the consumer who could then use the page as their platform to the entire web.
