BBC IceCubed

Matthias

BBC is biiiiig. That´s good and... it is a challenge. You can easily get lost.
I thought maybe it would help to have some kind of element which stays the same everywhere (except the logo). And this element should have one look but many different functions. I got up with a cube (having a glance at the logo you will know where I got that idea). I put some buttons on it and (will) make it rotating.
The start-screen is just that cube (and the logo). The cube can rotate and shows you the possible categories you may be interested in. If you can´t decide just press the shuffle-button and you will be lost ;)

Sites 2 and 3
Here you see the main content site. At the top you will have the most clicked news and links. It can help to find recent and interesting stuff at a click.
Below that you have your personal BBC-Box. Your favorites in all categories are color-coded - the generic categories are just grey (look at My News..........News).
You also will find some applications you can put there like the weatherforecast for example. One neat little gimmick ist the newsletter you can generate. You can put together the headlines of those categories you like and you can even say what day (and time) the newsletter is sent to your e-mail address (RSS-Feed is another possibility of course).

Back to the navigation cube. It will be colored in the color of the category you are in. And it will have some different functions as mentioned above. In the video-modus for example it is a mediaplayer, in the news-modus it is the navigation for "next site" oder "main menu" (plus plus plus). Remember? It can rotate.

Ah yeah. Nearly forgot to mention the search function in the head of the site.

So - that´s it for now. Hope you like it...

Colour scheme and possibly layout is interested, though the 'ice cube' concept puts me off.

No one else seems to want to comment so I will.
Is there a need for different types of interfaces for mobile devices. Praps like screensavers on a phone people could scroll through a list and choose (change)the one they like the best?
It's clear the shuffle generation (All strong ideas) are coming with a different ideaset than those with web/grapics/newsprint backgrounds.
Again, perhaps people could choose the interface they want for a PC screen.

There'd still be a need for a 'BBC default' interface though. ('BBC over 30s' I fear!)
