BBC Worldwide
My design a bit differs from the classic web portals. My aim was to design something new in the world of web portals. For me BBC always associated with huge information & entertainment center, the home for the society of information. As I was looking for a description of BBC in the web I came with two keywords: Worldwide and Information. Later I found inspiration in 'Time Road' system used in discipline of History to show the run of historical events and dates. And other inspiration was Geographical World map divided in to lines showing world time zones. Both systems associated with keywords 'Worldwide' and 'Information'. That is how I came with idea of this layout. It is clear, informative and gives you the feeling of controlling global information. Functionaly it is like a computer on-line - everything is in your hands. Maybe not all the information is displayed accurately in the example but the principle should be clear.

really impressive, don't see this winning but its probably the most genuinely innovative entry so far.
Hmm... it's a bit complicated. It might work better if the headings were goign across the page, rather than down it, and I'd like a few more graphics thrown in too.
I think it is a very good choice of headings though, and top marks for doing something different.
