Reboot 1.0
Found out about this contest late so I never really had a chance to complete everything I would have liked but basically my idea for the BBC home page would be as follows. Anyone can register for free and have the home page personalised as much as they wish with their news and their programs. (maybe even with a bbc-reboot.co.uk email address?) At this point I should point out that the version of the site (eg: international) / font size / colours etc would be set in the users profile.
I personally don't visit the BBC site for news (unless sopmething big braks) with the exception of football and other sports, so I would add this type of news story as the main articles for me with Liverpool FC news being the main news feeds being fed into my bbc homepage.
I would also have a column down the left hand side of the page that would be called "my Personal Beeb" this would have local weather and news / sport and maybe travel if I had selected it in my profile to appear. This pane would also have my TV guide for the next few days (program reminders), (may even include non-BBC channels) the right hand side of the page would have the 4 main BBC chanels that I had selected with the up to the minute TV guides, to save me searching.
The main center part of the screen would start at the top with the on this day... feature and would have important news from years past, this could be the same for everyone.
Then the personal news section followed by information about the registered users favourite TV programs.
The main navigation across the top would be plain and simple, all of which would use accesskeys for navigation.
The radio player would sit at the top, maybe a tv one just below it as well.
One of the things that I would love to see introduced to the BBC site would be an Online store selling BBC DVDs. Having recently struggled to get hold of a copy of Fawlty Towers (even from a local BBC store that I discovered by chance) it would be a great one stop shop for everything BBC.
