reboot: bbc.co.uk
The key features of our project are dignity and functionality. I think the following solutions help implement this idea most effectively.
In the case with a vertical portal -- which is aimed at a particular audience, i.e. the visitors of this site only -- there is no use placing numerous content tops on the homepage. At the same time, the site should be easy to navigate, with just some discreet accents and entry points for the portal’s major sections. When the inner structure is complex, users should grasp the structure at once to navigate effortlessly and find the desired information. There is no need to put everything that might attract the users on the homepage. They should have an opportunity to find the information they need themselves.
To emphasize the informational aspect, the news is placed against the background, in a newspaper-like style.
I believe this is the optimum solution as far as functionality and usability are concerned. There’s nothing like a skillfully implemented idea of self-reliance -- which means no stereotypes, no excessive content or intrusive ads -- for the image, dignity and, perhaps, even the dominance of the company.

Easy,light and nice space)
Comfortable navigation
five!
I like the idea, the page looks bright & freely, without corporate fussiness.
Being an html-coder, I'd code this page with pleasure, using the latest w3c standards and recommendations.
I believe that internet sites should become more light and simple without usability loss.
not bad, and very stylish
Twinzen, I'd like this in the corner of my desktop as a widget.
I think widgets as a way of delivering personalised 'bites' of information to users would be a great thing. It'd be better if I could also keep it visible in the corner of my screen as I worked. I'm thinking world cup matches so I can see the up to minute results, breaking news stories and so on.
A few entries have made me think of Mobile interfaces or widgets.
(Yahoo lets people design widgets. User driven technology - fantastic.)
Off topic: Yes, on reflection the BBC really should do a bare bones Email service. (Don’t try competing with Gmail / Blinkmail etc.)
I can think of dozens of people (elderly mainly) without email, who'd like it but find the web intimidating. But they use the BBC site. A trusted, familiar brand.
It could also become children's first email service (trusted by parents) and give them a reason to keep coming back. The tech savvy would have several - but that wont change.
BBC. For TEENS: you need messaging.
Finally slashdot.org have just announced a reboot design competition almost identical to the BBC's. Laptop prize too.
The BBC may have started a trend! [Wisdom of users.]
