Your Timeline
My entry is more about thinking of innovative ways of displaying content to a huge audience of people - each of which may want the information they want displayed differently.
Thinking along these lines, I thought the one thing that everyone has in common is.. time. Therefore I created a timeline that is central to the homepage design. Users can customise what content appears on their timeline and they can see what has happened/ is happening all on one page.
The timeline concept has many benefits, as settings such as timezones could be selected (for our european and worldwide viewers), as well as being able to display exactly the content that users want.
Tabs along the top of the timeline allow users to switch between particular sections of the site, where selected content is specifically displayed on the timeline, or they can choose to view a mixture of news, radio,tv all on the same timeline, perhaps with colour-coded graphics.
Other features of the page include access to Blogs you've recently added to, as well as suggested content you might like (based on content you already browse.)
Radio and Video player is integral to the page also, allowing for audio and video to be playing as you browse the site. You could also schedule your favourite shows, so that the player switches to these automatically when they are on air. Naturally you can also use this pane to download your favourite podcasts from the BBC and other websites.
