your world: online
Im in the process of teaching myself web design so when I saw this brief I just had to have a go. Attempting the code proved too difficult (and damn right frustrating!), so apologies for the large jpg and the slightly fuzzy type but I hope you get the general idea. Any CSS tips greatly appreciated.
Initially the user would have to set up an account, then this would create their homepage like the one I have designed.
I think the site should be a much more of a personal thing, with the facility for individual members to make friends and build up networks. The BBC should become an online community with users sharing news, interests, advice etc... I think an email and built in instant messenger service would encourage people to remain constantly logged in, using the BBC as their portal to the web.
I also think the navigation should be simplified. I have split the site into seven distinct, colour coded sections; news, sport, where I live, children's, music, radio and television. All pages would be coloured according to the section they are in. I have used the seven colours of the rainbow and there are seven letters in bbc.co.uk (how convenient!) - did wonder if there may be any rainbow related marketing possibilities or is that a tad naff!?
If I had more time I would like to work on the project as a whole as their is so much scope. Id like to carry out research into what people currently use the site for and get data on what links are used the most. This would help in working out the information hierarchy and therefore the navigation of the site. Id love to work on the branding, the logo, launch info, advertising etc... coordinating the whole image of BBC online. If money was no object Id get the best illustrators, photographers and designers to work on the front end and the best coders and developers to make it all work.

I really like this design. Looks very professional :)
Yep, like it a lot. Really like the way you've got all that information presented.
Some neat ideas too. I can't vote for my own so this would get my vote. :P
Interesting design, but the text is far too small to read.
Mmmm, clean but a little childish + its just a rejig of the existing content, not very web 2.0
